DEEP SOUTH BACKGROUND
Deep South was set up in 1994 by Gerry Lyseight and Alex Simons. Gerry is well-known for everything
from his leading role in the eclectic London club, Mambo Inn, to his compilation of the Big Noise
albums for Rykodisk, to his weekly show on BBC radio.
With the label Deep South he and Alex aim to fill the gap between World music and jazz - a gap also
inhabited by the likes of Airto Moreira and the late Fela Kuti.
Deep music from South of the planet.
Deep South plan to expand their catalogue steadily over the next few years by making new recordings
with carefully chosen artists at the forefront of their genres and by developing artists already on the label.
Negrocan have just finished recording their second album for the label and 2 or 3 new releases are planned
for 1998.

SIDESTEPPER: SOUTHERN STAR
(Colombian drum and bass fusion)
NEW RELEASE: Cat. No. DEPECD 003
A.k.a. studio engineer and producer, Richard Blair. Richard has worked with Peter Gabriel
and Toto La Mompasina. It was the latter collaboration which led him to living in
Bogata in Colombia for 4 years. The Sidestepper project fuses his love for Colombian music
with his love of drum and bass. Strictly the first of its kind, but definitely not the last.
